My second story is less thrilling, but has a better outcome for me. Yesterday I was in a sour mood. Wall Drug had made me mad, and I was regrettin gleavin gthe badlands after one night. On top of all that There was a awfull headwind coming out of the west, and I was forced to spend 2+ hours on the interstate. I decided to stop for the day and treat myself to a real meal. I found a Restaurant in New Underwood. it also had a gas station, luandramat, and The Worlds Smallest Biker Bar. I got a cheeseburger with fries and a shake. They had the news on so I was able to catch up on how the ecomomy is crumbling. After my meal( which was great; lots of good food for a reasonable price) I asked the waitress if there was a place in town where I could set up my tent. The owner, Steve, that escourted my out back to a nice flat spot for my tent. I was happy already! The next morning, though, was the real pick-me-up. I was all packed and had eaten my morning oatmeal and coffee( which is rarely enough), when Steve came out and asked me if I was heading out. then he offered me a free Breakfast! He served my up a big plate of hashbrowns, sausage, and eggs, plus coffee, for nothing. This is one nice guy. On top of all this he gives me a 'World's Smallest Biker Bar' t-shirt. So i'm spreading the word(it's the least I can do), if you're gonna go by New Underwoodsoth Dakota, stop in for something to eat! Thanks Steve!
Other than that the trip has been pretty normal. I'm making good time, and hope to be into colorado in under ten days. James Mitchell, where are you located and can I sleep on your floor?
Also, acouple people have asked me about a location where they can mail me some stuff. If James is located in boulder, Colorado(if my memory serves me right), then that would be one place. Items can be shipped general delivery to large enough cities.
Depenmding on how fast I travel, I may end up being back in the citeis for a few weeks before christmas( before continueing the adventure). I know some folks will be back in the cities for thanksgiving, and probably christmas. When are people going to be back?
Also, if anyone has Cyrl's number, please alert him to the money post, or send me his number. Thanks.
What is everybody up to?
For new readers, please leave a comment so I know you are reading. It can be as simple as "Hi, i'm here."
Hope life is treating you all well. Thanks for reading.
You know it's a bad headwind when you have to pedal to go downhill.

Also firsties.
Are you going to write a book about all this cause the way both you are writing and the way that people are helping you out and such reminds me of this book I read where a guy hitchhikes his way around Ireland with a fridge.
Alex, you will not be sleeping on the floor, you will be sleeping in my bed you sexy animal. I live in Boulder Colorado. It is north west of Denver. For those of you who wish to send alex stuff through me, my mailing address 9075 Stearns East Hall 600 30th St. Zip code 80310
Alex, when you get near here you can give me a call and i can guide you to where i live. Its pretty easy to find because it is the tallest thing in boulder and tends to stand out. When you get here you are gunna stay more than one night. i will force you against your will
Alex, I'm glad you have a blog. Also I still have three of your racks and a handlebar bag from my tour to duluth. They're just chillin in my garage so yup. Also I finished building my fixie last wednesday love it.
Cyril's fat ass can be reached at 612-822-5014 (home, doesn't have a call), which i definitely told you in an earlier comment. Anyway were gonna have to have an official thigh comparison when you get back. Don't forget to stretch.
Alex, if something stupid happens to you, like getting bit by a rattlesnake, I am going to kill you! And I am not sure I like you staying with someone who is calling you a "sexy animal". Do I have to fly out there and start biking with you to watch over you? I am sure you would love that. Here are the ground rules I would establish:
no more than 20 miles a day
no more than 10 miles an hour
we walk up all the big hills and go really really slow down them.
every two days we have a "spa" day (you pay).
Okay, so if you want to avoid something like this happening, STAY AWAY FROM SNAKES AND PEOPLE WHO CALL YOU "SEXY ANIMAL".
love and kisses, aunt julie
aren- those racks belong to sunrise cyclery and should be returned asap. The baskets and handlebar bag can just get left on my porch. feel free to spread this blog among the few tru cyclists still at southwest. What frame did you use for the fixie? I seem to remember a motobecane but my memory isn't that great.
James- Your hospitality is as my friend peter Rusk would say, "poast-modern and raw" I would add shocking, but then, I should be used to you by now. Dude, I would be happy to spend more than a day in boulder! I'm currently racing out of the Black Hills to avoid snow, so a little break might be nice.
nick Ray- Thanks for Cyruls info. I actually have not been stretching at all, so thanks for the reminder.
Aunt Julie- I've never been one to run from an ego boost, so i'm going to take james' 'sexy animal' comment in stride! Also, as the cold weather is beggining to catch up with me, tjhe rattlesnake issue has been, for the most part, resolved. Let the serpent freezing begin!!!!
Devin- now I understand the firsties thing. Keep it up man. Hows the U treating you?
Alex, I've loved reading your "blog thing" and am inspired by your trip! The free breakfast story was great - may there by many more encounters like that as you continue your trek west. My sister (Kathy Kopp) lives in Fraser, Colorado if you need a place to stay. She'd be more than happy to put you up.
Pleasant Avenue is cheering you on!
Sandy Parnell and clan
Great to see you on the interweb Sandy! That contact in fraser might be helpful!
Okay well I have three racks and I seem to remember you saying one of them was your own personal rack. But yeah its a motobecane, a I love it. It's way better then my other motobecane. And now when I ride my freewheel the pedals just feel loose. I need to go back over to sunrise soon anyways so I'll bring over the two I know are theirs for sure. Unless I here from you otherwise, should I fabricate a story, are you gonna get a bad rap if I bring in some racks that they thought were missing like two months later?
Aren- Bring the racks that you know are Sunrise's to Sunrise. I won't get in any trouble. I must have the other sunrise rack at my house. I do seem to remember your friend taking my rear baskets, and if those plus that handlebar bag coul dget to my house, that would be great. My Brother wants to use the baskets. Otherwise, glad the Motobecane is working well.
